Nissan Navara pick-ups and similar type vehicles

We’re asking owners of Nissan Navara pick-ups and similar type vehicles to be vigilant when it comes to vehicle security.

The plea comes after two Navaras were stolen overnight on 21 to 22 September from a village in the Ryedale area.

From making sure you lock it, removing the keys and removing valuables, to installing a tracker, we’re urging owners to ensure they take as many crime prevention measures as possible.

Locking it, even when filling up or parked on your drive, greatly reduces the possibility of it being targeted by an opportunist thief. Make sure you haven’t left any windows or the sunroof open. Use a lockable garage if you have one.

If you haven’t already, consider investing in a tracking system. These make it far more likely that police will be able to find your stolen vehicle – and arrest those responsible. Steering wheel locks, pedal locks, immobilisers and CCTV systems can also provide a strong deterrent, ensuring your vehicle isn’t seen as an ‘easy target’.

If you have a keyless entry car, follow these measures:

• When at home keep your car key (and the spare) well away from the car

• Put the keys in a screened or signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag or box and check if it is still working every few months

• Reprogramme your keys if you buy a second-hand car

• Turn off wireless signals on your fob when it's not being used.

While no security system is fool-proof, taking precautionary measures will significantly reduce the risk of theft or damage to your vehicle.
